Michael is a multidisciplinary independent working at the intersections of common good and collective ownership in the urban lab known as Berlin. Projects begin with the theory and practice of social ecology, emphasizing dialogue, self-organization and local urban initiatives, community development and conviviality.
University teaching contracts include the TU Berlin Urban Management (Housing and Resource Transformation), CIEE Berlin (Future Cities), Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee (Raum Strategien), and the FU Berlin JFK Institute (Sustainable Cities). Major publications include the Open Access eBook SOCIAL-ECOLOGICAL COOPERATIVE HOUSING, COHOUSING CULTURES and COHOUSING INCLUSIVE. Michael’s many projects include Urban Forest Gardens, EXPERIMENTDAYS and the online platform CoHousing-Berlin. Founder and board member of the non-profit organizations id22:Institute and Spreeacker.

Michael has been personally active for decades with Community-Led Housing and recently with the Stadtbodenstiftung Berlin, Germany’s first example of a Community Land Trust (CLT) - a nonprofit, urban land foundation. Since 2011 involved in the development of the Spreefeld Housing Cooperative, as well as the Spreeacker initiative with its edible landscapes. At home in the Spreefeld’s Spree WG 1 shared-living group.
