22-27/07/24 “Beyond Stammtisch” Summerschool - Conceptualizing Rural Spaces of Commoning
Seven students from different HCU study programs had the opportunity to spend a week at the historic guesthouse "Zur Grenze" in Altenbruch, Cuxhaven as part of the Summer School “Beyond Stammtisch” organized by students from Urban Design together with teaching staff and Anke Jurleit. Their mission was to bring new life into this former customs house and local community space.
During their stay, the students explored the house, the garden, and the surrounding area, engaging with locals and uncovering the many histories of this unique site. Through open dinners with the local community and in collaboration with Paula Erstmann, they gathered insights, perspectives and ideas surrounding the building, blending past memories with future possibilities.
They developed eleven potential future scenarios for the guesthouse, each presented as a short story. These scenarios range from short-term projects to long-term changes, providing a step-by-step plan imagined to bring new life to this beloved space. Each scenario takes into account the time, cost, and community involvement needed, encouraging collective imagination of the future possibilities for "Zur Grenze."
