We would like to invite you to Volume 2 of "Futures of UD", our new discussion and exchange format bringing together Urban Design students and teaching staff to reflect on the future of the discipline.

Following the first edition, "Futures of UD Vol. 1 – Future Methods and Positioning", with guest contributions by Séverine Marguin and Jamie Baxter, the upcoming session will focus on publishing, knowledge production, and knowledge dissemination in Urban Design.

To open the discussion, we are delighted to welcome Rebecca Wall and Robert Stürzl, who will provide short inputs from their respective perspectives on publishing as a practice and on the role of publications in shaping, communicating, and producing knowledge.

Robert Stürzl is a researcher, editor, and publishing professional. He studied Communication Design at HBK Braunschweig, Urban Design at HafenCity University Hamburg and served as Programme Manager for Architecture and Urbanism at Spector Books in Leipzig, where he coordinated numerous publications in the fields of contemporary art, architecture, and urbanism.
He currently works as a Research Associate at the University of Stuttgart, where he is involved in the communication of knowledge through conferences, exhibitions, and publications. His interests include the relationship between research and design and the role of publishing in shaping how knowledge is perceived.

Rebecca Wall is an urban practitioner working with tools drawn from planning, research, art, and activism. Through projects like Modellprojekt Rathausblock Kreuzberg and her role as a board member of Urbane Praxis e.V., she has extensive experience in processes of cooperative, common good oriented planning where urban makers collaborate with public administration and politics.
Her UD Master's thesis „Die Polis war ein Partyzelt", co-authored with Marius Töpfer, was published by Botopress. She lately published "Zaudern ums Gemeinwohl. Produktive Missverständnisse in der kooperativen Stadtentwicklung" together with Ignacio Farías and Felix Marlow at adocs. For her, publishing becomes most interesting where it is understood as an opening for conversation and knowledge production, rather than mere representation of a final finding.

The guest inputs will be followed by an open discussion with students, teaching staff, and other interested participants.
