Everyday state of emergency: the influence of French counterterrorist security measures on public spaces in Paris. 2017
This work investigates the influence of counterterrorist measures on public spaces in Paris.
First, it focuses on two governmental security tools: the counterterrorist security plan “Vigipirate”, and the state of emergency, a legal tool that gives extra power to the executive branch and police forces.
Second, physical elements related to security are identified through empirical research in different spaces of the city, and their relation with counterterrorist security is analysed.
Finally, the influence of security measures, involved actors and physical elements are verified in three case studies: Forum des Halles, Gare du Nord and Place de la République.
