Another recap of last semester's UDP3 "Red Zones! - Mapping urban risk and conflict zones" projects! Presenting "Red Zone Logistics - Mapping the (Re)production of Logistics Space“ by Anna Blume, Michelle da Silva Guedelha, Anna-Lena Jung and Hanna Shi.

"Mapping the (Re)Production of Logistics Space investigates the Port of Hamburg as a paradigmatic site of contemporary logistics and conceptualizes it as a “Red Zone”, in which environmental risk, infrastructural concentration, and social inequality condense into a multi-scalar formation of heightened vulnerability. Rather than treating logistics as a neutral system of transport and coordination, the book approaches it as a central organizational paradigm of supply chain capitalism: one that actively reshapes space, labor, governance, and socio-ecological relations.

The book is structured around four empirical “moments” derived from fieldwork conducted at and around the Port of Hamburg. These moments focus on the human experiences and organization of maritime labor and the application of global logistical templates onto the local place at the harbour. Together, these moments reveal how the port is simultaneously territorially bounded and globally entangled, locally situated yet shaped by distant economic and geopolitical decisions. This project explores the entanglement between these moments”
