Basics: Project Management in Urban Design 2018/19. Representing Relations: Mikropol
The seminar=project Representing Relations will enable participants to realise a rudiment project and learn from the process of doing so. The term "rudiment" stands for a beginning, an initial test or a specimen. In percussion music, a "rudiment" is one of a number of relatively small patterns which form the foundation for more extended and complex drum patterns. In the context of this seminar=project, doing a "rudiment project" refers to a technique of dealing with a common resistance in project work: coming into play. In this initial phase of play, the iterative rehearsal of techniques for operationalising actually existing potentialities is central for building a proposition for future activities.
The seminar=project is structured by a series of Takes: 0) organising organisation, 1) performing positionality in knowing about project work in urban design, 2) analysing a situation in its becomingness: representing sites, actors, actions and documents, 3) organising a rudiment and 4) documenting the process in its pertinent aspects.
All seminar=project is framed by UD's P L A Y methodology available in the form of the Hamburg Open Online University project Project Management in Urban Design. This website functions as a knowledge archive in the categories a) description, b) conception, c) reference, d) synthesis and e) manual. Students will work with and extend the archive in relation to their seminar=project work.
The seminar=project is co-produced by Mikropol and the Research and Teaching Programme Urban Design.
