The lecture “History and Theory of Digitalisation” provides an introduction to the key urban perspectives, practices, ways and futures of digitalization from a cultural studies point of view. The specific focus of the lecture lies on the interlinkage of culture, digitalization and the city.
 
The module deals with conceptual and methodological approaches of digitalization in context of urban challenges and cultural inquiries of the city. The goal of the module is that students are enabled to locate the historical perspectives of digitalization, to reflect on different ways of digitalization, and to critically situate themselves in the digital city. Intensive reading and continuous independent study with specific digital tools are a prerequisite for active participation in the module. The final assessment of the module is a paper (Hausarbeit, 100%) submitted by the end of the summer term.
