Urban Types 2026

"Urban Types (UT) – Of Houses and People” focuses on housing as a practice, placing greater emphasis on the residents’ perspective. Using various methods such as film, photography, drawing, text, and documents, the seminar seeks to apply methods of investigation and storytelling and, through the biographies of houses and residents, to explore: When, how, where, and with whom do we inhabit the rooms, houses, neighborhoods, the city, and the world? While the nuances of our ways of life shape our living practices, they do not necessarily shape our understanding of living or even our homes. What interests us is how the everyday practice of living relates to built living spaces, and we ask ourselves whether there might be hidden spaces of knowledge within them that we can unlock for possible futures of living.
