Friedrich-STADT-hotel: activate - participate - associate 2022

The Urban Design teaching and research program at HCU Hamburg has been accompanying and advising the city of Friedrichstadt for several phases of the Zukunftsstadt Wettbewerb (Future City Competition) of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research - BMBF. In the process, knowledge forms of enabling such as cinematic approaches to everyday life in the municipality of Friedrichstadt or a catalog including evaluation approaches on the use of the historic core city of Friedrichstadt, as well as contributions to scientific conferences and publications could be developed.

In the current phase III of the Zukunftsstadt Wettbewerb, denkstatt sàrl has taken over the facilitation of the process based on the project outline Friedrich-STADT-Hotel. A group of Friedrichstadt residents has advanced the model project through project consultations Frieehus – ein Haus für Friedrichstadt (a house for Friedrichstadt) on three levels: Uses, Values and Sponsor Model. With Project Day 1 at the end of May, the Friedrichstadters presented the model project in a specially developed exhibition on site and exchanged views with an advisory board on the further procedure. In the further procedure, a summer school "Friedrichstadt, how do you develop?" with students from HCU and other universities under the direction of Studio Malta then specified these approaches and translated them into spatial models. With Project Day 2 in early September 2021, these results were again presented and discussed in a public event in Friedrichstadt.

Since then and based on the results of the Summer School, the project group of Friedrichstädter has been working on a project model Frieehuus and followed up on these approaches. The project group presented the current state of work in a parliamentary evening at the end of March 2022. The seminar is intended to support the further process. In a transdisciplinary setting together with experts on site and from different, project-relevant knowledge cultures, the possibilities of a project development in terms of organization (Trägermodell) and future use will be explored and brought into shape in relation to the architecture. The focus is on procedures and knowledge related to activating, involving and associating future actors in the project. The work done in the seminar serves as a basis for decision-making for an intended application to bring the project "Frieehuus - a house for Friedrichstadt" on the path of feasibility.

The seminar is aimed at students of the Urban Design, Urban Planning and Architecture programs at HCU. As a 5 CP seminar it takes place every two weeks on Friday afternoons with guests from politics, administration, practice and science.
